Early October saw the release of «Everybody Needs Money» («Visiem vajag naudu»), the debut feature film from director Kristiāns Riekstiņš. The filmmakers themselves describe it as a heist comedy, and the work is now available to a wider audience, who will get to form their own opinion of it.

The idea behind the story

Speaking on Latvian Radio's program «Kultūras rondo», Riekstiņš explained the concept driving the film. He said he wanted to explore the feeling of having a dream that gathers dust while everyone else around you seems to be doing better in life. That relatable, personal feeling became the foundation of the film's plot, which Riekstiņš built into a comedy framed around a robbery storyline.

A first in feature filmmaking

«Everybody Needs Money» marks Riekstiņš's first full-length film as director, representing a significant milestone in his filmmaking career. The title and comedic genre suggest the film tackles serious themes — disappointment, comparing oneself to others, and the role money plays in life — through a lighter, humorous lens.

The film is now in front of audiences, who can judge for themselves how well it captures the director's original idea about the clash between dreams and reality in today's society.
