The right order to plug in your phone charger, according to tech experts
German tech outlet Chip.de recommends plugging the charger into the wall socket first, then connecting the cable to the phone — the opposite of what most people do. This helps avoid brief voltage spikes that can occur at the moment of connection.

Most people charging their smartphone first plug the cable into the phone and only then connect the charger to the wall socket. However, German technology outlet Chip.de suggests the reverse order is better.
Why the order matters
When a charger is connected to the electrical grid, brief voltage spikes lasting only a few milliseconds can occur. Modern, quality devices usually have built-in protection against such events, but the outlet recommends not yet connecting the phone at that exact moment, just to be safe.
Manufacturer Huawei has noted in its own guidance that power-related issues can, in certain cases, cause various malfunctions — including device restarts, screen flickering, or damage to electronic components.
Recommended sequence
For this reason, it is recommended to first plug the charger into the socket and only then connect the cable to the smartphone. When disconnecting, the reverse order applies: first unplug the cable from the phone, then pull the charger from the socket.
At the same time, it's worth remembering that modern smartphones have built-in protection systems, so a single incorrect action usually will not damage the device.
