Jūrmala Launches Christmas Decoration Contest with €1,000 Prize
Jūrmala City Council is inviting residents, businesses and institutions to enter its annual Christmas decoration contest. Winners will receive €1,000, and entries are due by 30 December.
Jūrmala City Council has announced its annual contest “The Most Beautiful Christmas Decoration”, open to residents, businesses, institutions and organisations. The aim is to build a festive mood and make the city's winter environment more creative and visually appealing. The authors of the best decorations will receive a €1,000 cash prize, and entries must be submitted by 30 December.
Who can take part
The contest accepts publicly visible decorations facing public outdoor space: on building facades, in windows and shop windows, on squares, in courtyards or elsewhere. It does not matter whether the site is private property, an apartment building, a business or an institution. One applicant may nominate an unlimited number of sites.
Entries can be submitted by the creators or managers of a decoration, as well as by any resident, visitor or passer-by who has noticed a nice festive display in Jūrmala.
Categories and judging
Decorations will be judged in seven categories: private houses; apartment buildings; shops and other service venues; cafés, restaurants and pubs; educational institutions; public buildings and organisations; and tourism and hotels, including guest and holiday houses.
A committee will award points on four criteria: creative idea and its fit with the Christmas season, artistic and technical quality, visual impact on the urban environment, and overall impression and festive atmosphere.
Prizes
The best will receive €1,000, commemorative prizes and certificates of appreciation from the city council. In each category the committee may reward up to three entrants with the highest overall scores. The award goes to the holder of the site, who is responsible for its upkeep. The city's own council-funded Christmas decorations are not judged.
How to apply
Applicants must fill in an entry form and send it to konkurss@jurmala.lv or the official electronic address, or hand it in at Jūrmala administration customer centres at Jomas iela 1/5, Raiņa iela 110 or Tukuma iela 20. Forms sent electronically must carry a secure electronic signature.
