Jelgava students' artwork recognized in international children's initiative
A Jelgava school for students with special needs was visited by a representative of the “The Children are Painting the World” foundation from Kazakhstan, who honored two students for their participation in an international drawing initiative.
The “Valdeka” primary school and development centre in Jelgava was visited last week by Hanzada Jessenova, director of the Kazakhstan-based foundation “The Children are Painting the World,” together with Dace Rutka, Latvia's ambassador to Kazakhstan, according to the Jelgava Education Department.
The visit was held to honor two students from the school for their participation in the international initiative “Children Draw the World. Latvia.” David Krūmiņš, a finalist in the initiative, received an award, while Līna Dobkeviča was presented with a certificate of participation. Both students' creative work and involvement in the initiative were guided by visual arts teacher Brigita Rāviņa.
During the visit, the school was also given two books published by the foundation, containing collections of children's drawings. The books will be added to the school library's collection and made available to students.
About the initiative
The international initiative “Children Draw the World” was launched in 1999 at the initiative of UNESCO and the United Nations General Assembly, bringing together creative works by children from multiple countries.
