Record number of teams take part in Jelgava's Tourism Rally
A record 65 teams with 228 participants took part in the annual "Tourism Rally" orienteering competition held in Jelgava on World Tourism Day. The team "TurboMammas un Mazie Rallisti" won first place.
On World Tourism Day, September 27, the Jelgava Regional Tourism Centre (JRTC) held its annual team car orienteering competition, the "Tourism Rally." According to JRTC, this year saw a record turnout, with 65 teams and a total of 228 participants taking part.
The event started and finished in the courtyard of Jelgava's Holy Trinity Church tower. Teams travelled to tourism sites in both Jelgava city and Jelgava municipality, completed tasks listed on worksheets, and took part in activities organized by local tourism service providers.
A lengthy route
Had teams visited every checkpoint in sequence, the total route length would have reached roughly 140 kilometers. Participants faced a deadline, needing to return to the finish line and submit their completed worksheets by 6 p.m.
Results
After points were tallied, the team "TurboMammas un Mazie Rallisti" took first place, followed by "Briedīši" in second and "Trakie ceļotāji" in third. Alongside the main prizes, tourism service providers also handed out their own special recognition awards.
JRTC has organized this World Tourism Day competition since 2015, when it launched with 23 participating teams. This year's turnout reflects the event's growing popularity over the years.
