Baltic Ballet Festival programme revealed: Pēteris Vasks' music, Berlin ballet and flamenco from Seville

The 31st International Baltic Ballet Festival, themed "From Classics to Avant-Garde," will run from October 16 to November 25. This year's programme brings guest performances from three foreign companies – from Ukraine, Germany and Spain.

Ukrainian company performing to a Latvian composer's music

KYIV MODERN BALLET, Ukraine's leading contemporary ballet company founded by choreographer Radu Poklitaru in 2005, will present the one-act ballet "I Love You," set to Latvian composer Pēteris Vasks' music "Sinfonietta Rīga." The company's repertoire includes both Poklitaru's own productions and works by young Ukrainian choreographers.

Berlin ballet company's Latvian debut

Germany's BERLIN BALLET COMPANY will perform in Latvia for the first time. Founded in 2023 by former Staatsballett Berlin dancers, this independent international troupe will present "Dance Spectrum," a selection of excerpts from several productions including "The Curlicues of the Path," "Mare Crisium," "Die Nacht" and "A Techno Ballet Odyssey." Each piece differs in style and mood, yet together they form a cohesive programme.

Flamenco from Seville

Spain's PUERTO FLAMENCO, a company from Seville, has represented contemporary flamenco trends since 2004. At the festival it will perform "Puro," combining traditional flamenco with modern staging. The company has earned international recognition for its dancers' virtuosity, singers' passion and guitarists' skill.
