Italian railway operator Trenitalia has reported a cyberattack that resulted in unauthorized access to some users' personal data. The company informed certain customers via email, stating that it had detected a "cybersecurity incident caused by unknown external entities."
According to Trenitalia, the attack led to unauthorized access to some personal data associated with travel tickets. However, the company emphasized that account login data, personal credentials, or payment information such as card numbers, expiry dates, or security codes were not affected.
Trenitalia has notified the Italian data protection authority about the breach and filed a complaint with the Rome Prosecutor's Office.
This incident follows recent cyberattacks in France. The National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (INSEE) reported a cyberattack that leaked personal data of 12,800 current and former employees. Additionally, in April, the French National Agency for Document Security (ANTS) suffered a massive data theft attack, with a 15-year-old suspect. In response, the French government allocated €200 million to modernize and strengthen the protection of various state digital services.
