Inese Galante: Talent is a gift that must be recognized and nurtured
Opera singer Inese Galante spoke on TV24 about the nature and importance of talent, noting that many people fail to recognize or use their own abilities. She also explained how the age at which professional training must begin varies across creative fields.
On the TV24 program "Nedēļa. Post scriptum," opera singer and chairwoman of the "Baltic Awards" selection committee Inese Galante shared her views on talent and its role in a person's professional development.
Galante emphasized that every person follows a unique path in life, but success is largely shaped by talent — a gift rather than something one earns through effort alone. In her view, talent can stem both from family background and from a spiritual dimension, and what matters most is whether a person recognizes and develops their abilities early enough.
Not everyone recognizes their talent
The singer noted that many people are in fact highly gifted, yet they do not always realize this or choose to make use of their abilities. Those who do sense their calling and are willing to fully commit to it, however, are able to develop their skills gradually and purposefully.
Different demands across creative professions
Discussing preparation for creative professions, Galante explained that in certain fields — such as ballet, sports, piano and violin — professional training must begin at a very young age, since mastering technical skills takes years. Singing, she noted, stands apart in this respect, as it is possible to begin a professional career later in life, distinguishing it from most other musical disciplines.
