Estonian President Ülle Madise rides in a rally car, plays football with fathers and sons, sits in on a band rehearsal and joins a historical sword fight in a television programme made for Father's Day. Estonia's public broadcaster ETV will air it on Sunday, November 8, at 8.30 p.m., the day Estonia marks Father's Day.

The show is titled "Isadepäev Vabariigi Presidendiga Mulgimaal" ("Father's Day with the President in Mulgimaa"). It follows the head of state through the villages of Raasilla, Holstre and Mustla, where different generations work side by side and traditions are passed from fathers to children.

About Mulgimaa

Mulgimaa is a distinct historical region of South Estonia, mostly covering present-day Viljandi County and parts of Valga County. The programme stresses that its small villages have an active community life in which generations take part in shared activities.

The president in action

In addition to the activities above, the president goes on a forest hike alongside the rally track. In the show she takes part in events rather than merely observing them.

The programme closes with a presidential address to fathers across Estonia. It was pre-recorded.

Besides the ETV broadcast, the show will be offered with sign language interpretation on ETV2 and in Russian on ETV+.
