Paris Basketball were beaten 98:96 by fellow French side ASVEL in Round 4 of the Euroleague. The hosts got big scoring nights from Nadir Ifi and Tyson Etienne, but it was not enough.

Ifi scored 30 points and added four steals, three rebounds, two assists and four turnovers. The total was a new career high for him in the Euroleague. American guard Etienne contributed 27 points, hitting six of his 13 three-point attempts.

The decisive minutes

ASVEL were driven by Australian veteran Patty Mills, who had 21 points and four assists. In 2014 he won an NBA title together with Tony Parker, now ASVEL's head coach. Tremont Waters added 19 points and did not miss a shot from the field.

With the score level at 95:95, Ifi made only one free throw. At 96:95 in the final minute he committed a turnover while dribbling, and Waters stole the ball and easily put ASVEL ahead 97:96. On the last possession, trailing by two, Ifi could not create a good position for himself and missed a difficult three-pointer.

Upcoming meetings

The two clubs did not meet in the French Super Cup at the start of the season, because ASVEL lost the semifinal 73:71 to Roanne. Their first league meeting in the French championship is scheduled for 12 December at ASVEL's home court.

In the Euroleague standings, ASVEL are ninth with two wins and two losses, while Paris are 18th with one win and three losses. Panathinaikos, Fenerbahce, Valencia and Partizan lead the table, all with three wins.
