Academy of Internal Security graduates insufficient to fill vacancies in PPA and Rescue Department
Over 500 students graduated from the Academy of Internal Security this year, but state agencies still face staffing shortages. The government will invest €100 million in the academy's development.
More than 500 students graduated from the Academy of Internal Security (MVD) this year. Most are already employed or will soon begin working in relevant state institutions, where they are required to serve for three years after graduation.
Rector Kuno Tammearu noted that interest in the institution has grown significantly in recent years. This year, applications increased by 20% compared to the previous year. There were 3.5 applicants per place in the police track, six in rescue services, and nearly ten in the tax field. However, Tammearu emphasized that the goal is to find the most suitable candidate for each position.
Despite the growing number of graduates, all security agencies continue to face staff shortages. Deputy Director General of the Police and Border Guard Board (PPA) Kristi Mää stated that the number of graduates has doubled in recent years, which is positive, but vacancies almost always exist. Director General of the Rescue Department Margo Klaos said the actual need is about 100 additional rescuers to fully staff all teams.
Minister of the Interior Igor Taro announced that the state will invest €100 million in the development of the academy and the training of specialists in the coming years.
