HK Vaiņode beat Jūrmala side and go top of handball A group
In the Latvian men's handball championship Virslīga A group, HK Vaiņode won 38:23 away at Jūrmala II and took the lead in the table. Gatis Taujēns scored 12 goals.

In the Latvian men's handball championship, Virslīga A group, HK Vaiņode won 38:23 (21:13 at half-time) away against Jūrmala II. The result lifted Vaiņode to the top of the A group table with four points, while Jūrmala II remain without points in last place, sixth.
The match was played at the sports hall of Jūrmala's Aspazija primary school. The opening was even: by the middle of the second minute the scoreboard showed 1:1, as both teams had converted their first attacks. Vaiņode's Renārs Vārna scored first, and Jūrmala's Artūrs Brants replied. Vaiņode's attacking leader Gatis Taujēns then made it 2:1, and the visitors did not give up the lead afterwards. Six seconds before the break, Ričards Juzups scored to set the half-time score at 21:13. In the second half the visitors extended their advantage.
Top scorers
For Vaiņode, Taujēns scored 12 goals. Juzups added eight, Vārna six, Jurģis Strēlis five and Mariss Laugalis four.
For Jūrmala, Brants was the top scorer with five goals, and Braens Rudens scored four.
League table
After two games, HK Vaiņode have two wins and a goal difference of 67:51. ASK/MSĢ II are second with two points, and SK Latgols are third. Ulbrokas SK and ONSC/HK Ogre have each lost one game, while Jūrmala II have lost both of their games, with a goal tally of 43:65.
