GTA VI: what to know about Rockstar's next Grand Theft Auto ahead of November launch

Grand Theft Auto VI is set to launch on November 19th for PS5 and Xbox Series consoles at $79.99, amid ongoing leaks, pricing news and worker unionization efforts. Rockstar is preparing a new extended preview, while physical copies will contain only a download code rather than a disc.

Rockstar Games' long-awaited Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled to launch on November 19th for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X, following a bumpy road marked by leaks, pricing announcements and labor unrest.

Leaks keep surfacing

Back in September 2022, roughly 90 videos leaked online showing early builds of the game, including its new take on Vice City and its two protagonists. The hacker responsible was sentenced to life in a secure hospital. More recently, new clips attributed to a person or group calling themselves "CyberLeek" have surfaced, showing protagonist Jason Duval shooting, driving and attacking someone with a wrench. Publisher Take-Two has filed subpoenas against Microsoft and Discord, seeking to identify those responsible for distributing copyrighted material.

Price and preorders

The standard edition will cost $79.99, with an Ultimate Edition priced at $99.99. Preorders opened in June, and Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said the level of interest has been "unprecedented and astonishing." Rockstar confirmed that even physical copies will only include a download code in the box rather than a disc, meaning buyers won't be able to resell the game afterward.

Extended preview and worker organizing

On August 27th, Rockstar plans to air an extended look at the game, streaming first for Netflix subscribers before appearing on YouTube. Meanwhile, Rockstar employees across several UK studios — including Edinburgh, Dundee, Lincoln, Leeds and London — have requested voluntary recognition of the IWGB Game Workers Union, following the firing of more than 30 staffers last year that some described as union-busting. The game's launch has already been delayed multiple times, most recently from May 2025 to November 2026.
