Greece's Tentoglu wins fourth European title in long jump
Greek long jumper Miltiadis Tentoglu secured the European Championship title with a jump of 8.44 metres, his fourth career continental title. Switzerland's Simon Ehammer took silver, while Bulgaria's Bozhidar Saraboyukov claimed bronze.
World season leader and 2023 world champion Miltiadis Tentoglu of Greece took the lead in the men's long jump at the European Championships with a fourth-attempt jump of 8.44 metres, securing gold.
The competition had been tight up to that point. Before Tentoglu's decisive jump, Switzerland's Simon Ehammer led with a second-attempt result of 8.29 metres. After Tentoglu's leap, Ehammer was unable to improve on his mark, leaving him with silver at 8.29 metres.
Having already secured the win, Tentoglu skipped his final two attempts. In his other three jumps, however, he consistently cleared the eight-metre mark, recording 8.27, 8.19 and 8.27 metres respectively.
Bronze for Bulgaria
Third place went to Bulgaria's Bozhidar Saraboyukov, who achieved his best result of 8.26 metres only on his sixth and final attempt.
Among the other competitors, Portugal's Gerson Baldé and Serbia's Luka Bošković both recorded 8.18 metres but missed out on a medal. Italy's Francesco Incoli and Spain's Eusevio Cáceres also took part in the competition.
With this result, Tentoglu claimed his fourth European title, reaffirming his position as one of the world's leading long jumpers this season.
