Latvia's effort to end the transit of grain from Russia and Belarus has been blocked by European legislation.

The rail regulator LatRailNet did not carry out the government's instruction in full. As a result, Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs has already called into question the existence of the regulator itself. This was discussed on the LSM.lv programme "Obsudim vecherom".

The possible liquidation of an LDz subsidiary has also been raised. While officials look for those at fault, trains carrying the cargo continue to cross the border.

The source material does not specify the exact legal obstacles or the volumes of grain involved.
