Govee launches smart nugget ice maker with AI noise reduction
Govee introduces the GoveeLife Smart Nugget Ice Maker Pro, a $500 premium gadget that produces soft, chewable nugget ice in six minutes and can be controlled via app or voice commands.
Govee has unveiled its latest kitchen appliance, the GoveeLife Smart Nugget Ice Maker Pro, aimed at those who consider the ice in their drink nearly as important as the beverage itself. Priced at $500, this smart home gadget produces what is often called "the good ice" – soft, chewable nugget ice commonly found in restaurants.
According to Govee, the machine can make ice in as little as six minutes, a claim that proved true during testing. It can produce up to 60 pounds of ice per day and features a 3.5-pound ice basket that automatically refills as ice is scooped out. The device can be controlled via the GoveeHome app, allowing users to start production remotely or schedule it, for example, to have fresh ice ready before morning coffee. The app also displays real-time production status and the amount of ice in the bin.
The ice maker supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, so a simple "Hey Google, start the ice maker" initiates production. It uses Govee's AI NoiseGuard technology to keep operating noise around 40 dB, automatically performing defrost cycles to minimize sound and ensure a steady ice supply. During testing, the steady hum was not distracting.
A customizable ambient light illuminates the ice basket. Through the app, users can choose from preset lighting effects or create custom ones, such as a "cyberpunk" mode with changing purple and red glow for a futuristic feel.
Measuring 17.28 x 13.98 x 17.01 inches and weighing 50 pounds, the unit takes up significant counter space. Setup is straightforward, but moving it for cleaning may require assistance.
In testing, the nugget ice melted slower than regular fridge ice, keeping drinks colder longer without watering them down. It also gave beverages a coffee-shop feel at home. Guests, especially self-described ice connoisseurs, were impressed – some even jokingly threatened to steal it.
The GoveeLife Smart Nugget Ice Maker Pro is best suited for regular iced beverage drinkers who appreciate "the good ice." If ice isn't a priority, this niche appliance may not be necessary.
