Google's Gemini AI may soon place personal calls for you, not just business ones
A teardown of an unreleased app version suggests Google is expanding Gemini's "Call for Me" feature to let it call friends and family, not just businesses.

Google appears to be working on expanding its Gemini AI assistant's "Call for Me" feature so it can place calls to friends and family, not just businesses.
Android Authority discovered a screen labeled "Gemini Calling" while examining an unreleased APK file, which included usage examples such as calling a user's mother to say they'll be 15 minutes late, or calling someone to ask whether they're coming for dinner.
Likely limited to short messages
Based on these examples, even with this expansion, Gemini would probably remain limited to brief, text-like calls rather than handling a full conversation with a relative. Still, such a feature could be useful for relaying quick messages to people who prefer phone calls, often miss texts, or still use a landline.
Possible permission controls
Android Authority also reported finding what appear to be granular permission settings for individual apps within the file, including options related to phone call permissions. These settings would let users choose which Gemini capabilities to allow within specific apps, potentially including the ability to opt out of receiving automated incoming calls from Gemini.
However, the outlet notes that Google may ultimately decide not to publicly release this expansion or the detailed permission settings, so it remains unclear whether or when the feature will become available to users.
