Google Play store now accepts Venmo as a payment method

Google has expanded payment options in its Play store by adding Venmo as a way to pay for purchases. Users can now buy apps, subscriptions and in-app content using either their Venmo balance or the cards and bank accounts linked to their Venmo account.

To use the new option, users first need to link their Venmo account within the Play app's payment methods section. Once set up, Venmo can also be used across other Google services, including YouTube.

Venmo joins other existing payment methods already available to US users, such as cards, PayPal and Cash App.

Part of a broader shift in billing options

The addition comes after Google recently opened up the Play store to outside billing systems in the US, the UK and Europe, as part of its settlement with Epic Games. This change allows developers to offer alternative payment systems or direct users to their own websites to complete purchases or subscriptions, bypassing Google's standard billing. However, some of these alternative payment options may not support Venmo.
