Most storm-damaged trails in Gauja National Park have now been cleared
Following the storm that hit Latvia in August, more than 75 kilometres of trails in Gauja National Park have already been cleared, the Nature Conservation Agency reports.
Cleanup work continues in Gauja National Park after the storm that struck Latvia in August. Diāna Aboltiņa, a representative of the Nature Conservation Agency, told the LETA news agency that trails totalling more than 75 kilometres have been cleared so far.
The August storm caused significant damage across the park, including to its network of tourist trails. In the aftermath, specialists began surveying the affected areas and clearing paths of fallen trees and other debris that had blocked access.
According to the agency representative, the majority of the damaged trails have already been restored and are once again open to visitors. This means a substantial part of the park is now accessible again for walking and nature routes.
Gauja National Park is one of Latvia's most popular tourist destinations, drawing large numbers of both local residents and foreign visitors to its trails each year. Prompt restoration of the paths after a natural disaster is therefore important to ensure safe movement through the park.
