The Meat Pavilion of Riga Central Market is being closed urgently due to safety concerns. The State Building Control Bureau (BVKB) announced that according to expert assessment, the main issue is corrosion of the load-bearing structures. This makes further use of the pavilion unsafe.

Traders operating in the pavilion are currently discussing two possible solutions. The first option is to continue trading from mobile trailers placed in the open area of the market. The second option is to adapt one of the other market pavilions for meat trade. No final decision has been made yet.

The Meat Pavilion is one of the historic buildings of Riga Central Market, and its closure causes inconvenience for both traders and customers. BVKB notes that due to corrosion, the load-bearing structures no longer meet safety requirements, so the pavilion can only be reopened after repairs. It is currently unknown how long the renovation might take.
