Fitzpatrick claims fourth title of the season with French Open win
England's Matt Fitzpatrick won the French Open at Le Golf National in Paris, securing his fourth title of the 2025 season.
Matt Fitzpatrick of England claimed victory at the French Open, held at Le Golf National near Paris, closing out the tournament with a three-shot margin over Spain's Angel Hidalgo. The 32-year-old shot a one-under-par final round of 70 to seal the win.
The title marked Fitzpatrick's fourth of the season and his 11th career win on the European Tour. Earlier in the year he had already claimed the Valspar Championship and RBC Heritage on the PGA Tour, plus the Zurich Classic team event in New Orleans, which he played alongside his younger brother Alex.
Late drama on the course
Fitzpatrick started the final round with a commanding five-shot lead, but a stretch of 12 consecutive pars allowed his pursuers to close the gap to just two shots. He steadied himself with important birdies on the 13th and 15th holes, restoring his advantage, and a closing bogey on the 18th was not enough to cost him the title.
Speaking afterwards, Fitzpatrick described the round as a battle, admitting his form was not at its best through the first 12 holes before he found his rhythm later on. He also credited some fortunate ball positions that allowed him to scramble effectively when needed.
The best round of the final day belonged to France's Matthieu Pavon, who carded a seven-under 64 to finish tied for fourth alongside compatriot Tom Vaillant, Spain's Eugenio Lopez-Chacarra and Norway's Kristoffer Reitan.
