EU Preparing Largest Sanctions Package Against Russia Since War Began
EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas has said a new package of sanctions against Russia will be proposed this autumn, potentially the largest since the full-scale invasion began, expanding the sanctioned entities list by a third.

Kaja Kallas, the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, has said that the European Union intends to present a new sanctions package against Russia in the coming months that could become the largest since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The information was reported by European Pravda, citing the German newspaper Die Welt.
Kallas said existing EU sanctions have already caused significant damage to Russia, costing the country more than €1 trillion. She added that this autumn she will propose the broadest set of sanctions measures since the war began.
Once adopted, the new package would immediately expand the total number of sanctioned Russian legal entities and individuals by one-third. Kallas emphasized that pressure on Moscow must keep increasing until the war ends.
Previous sanctions package
On 23 July, the Council of the European Union formally adopted a new sanctions package against Russia, describing it as a major blow to Russia's energy sector, financial services and cryptocurrency operations. The package was approved after weeks of delay caused by objections from several member states for various reasons, with Greece being the last to withdraw its objections.
On 7 August, Kallas announced that the EU had approved additional sanctions against Russia in response to recent large-scale strikes on Ukraine.
