The European Parliament has given its support to a new regulation known as Chat Control. This regulation permits owners of online platforms to scan users' private correspondence. According to the program "Обсудим вечером," the current version is voluntary and applies only to unencrypted messages.

However, discussions are already taking place regarding a stricter version that would mandate the scanning of all correspondence, regardless of encryption. This means that even encrypted messages, which are currently protected, could be subject to scrutiny in the future.

The stated aim of the regulation is to combat child sexual abuse online. Critics, however, argue that it could signal the end of private correspondence and usher in digital surveillance. Users should be aware that their messages may be analyzed to detect potential violations.

For now, a specific timeline for the implementation of mandatory scanning has not been set. Nevertheless, negotiations have begun, and the regulation could significantly impact digital privacy within the European Union.
