Bus crash on Egypt's Red Sea coast leaves 16 dead
At least 16 people died and 28 were injured when a bus crashed on a road between the Red Sea towns of Dahab and Nuweiba in eastern Egypt. The cause of the accident is still unknown.
Egypt's health ministry has confirmed that at least 16 people were killed in a bus crash on Wednesday morning in the South Sinai governorate, on the eastern side of the country.
The crash happened on the road connecting the towns of Dahab and Nuweiba, both well-known destinations along the Red Sea coast. A further 28 people were injured in the accident.
Authorities dispatched as many as 20 ambulances to the scene to treat the injured and transport them for further care. Officials have not yet determined what caused the crash.
A busy tourist route
The stretch of road lies in a region that draws large numbers of tourists from around the world each year, making it a heavily travelled corridor between the two coastal towns.
A wider pattern of road deaths
Fatal road accidents remain frequent across Egypt. National authorities recorded close to 6,000 traffic-related deaths in 2025, with officials often pointing to reckless driving and inadequate road conditions as contributing factors.
The crash follows a similar tragedy last month, when a collision between two lorries in the north-eastern Ismailia governorate killed 18 people and injured 30 others.
