About 2,600 households left without power after major grid fault in Dobele district
A serious power grid fault was recorded in the Dobele district on Tuesday morning, leaving around 2,600 customers of grid operator Sadales tīkls without electricity. The outage affects the areas around Tērvete, Penkule and Naudīte parishes.
A significant power grid fault was recorded in the Dobele district on Tuesday morning, cutting off electricity to around 2,600 customers of AS "Sadales tīkls." According to the company, the outage has affected residents in the areas surrounding Tērvete, Penkule and Naudīte parishes.
Representatives of Sadales tīkls say specialists are already working to fix the fault and restore power as quickly as possible. However, the company has not yet released further details about the cause of the fault or a projected timeline for restoring electricity supply.
Repeated grid damage this year
This is not the first time this year that Latvia's power grid has suffered major damage. A particularly severe situation occurred at the end of August, when a storm on August 22–23 caused damage to nearly 50 transmission lines and more than 40 substations, also significantly affecting the distribution network.
New compensation rules
Since September of this year, new regulations have been in force in Latvia regarding prolonged power outages. Under the rules, if an unplanned power outage exceeds 72 hours, the distribution system operator is required, in certain cases, to pay compensation to the affected customer.
