Two inmates deny attempted murder of Sara Sharif's father
Two prisoners at Belmarsh have pleaded not guilty to attempting to murder Urfan Sharif, who is serving a life sentence for killing his 10-year-old daughter Sara. The alleged attack took place on 1 January 2025 and left Sharif with facial cuts.
Two men have pleaded not guilty at the Old Bailey to charges of attempting to murder Urfan Sharif, the man imprisoned for killing his 10-year-old daughter Sara. Steven Sansom, 47, and Adam Watson, 39, were charged last month over an incident at Belmarsh Prison on 1 January 2025, which reportedly left Sharif with cuts to his face.
Sharif and Sara's stepmother, Beinash Batool, were both sentenced to life imprisonment for murdering the girl at the family's home in Woking, Surrey.
Sansom and Watson appeared at the hearing on Wednesday via video link from HMP Wakefield. The court heard that Sansom allegedly invited Sharif into a cell where Watson was waiting. Watson is accused of grabbing Sharif and punching him repeatedly, while Sansom applied pressure to his throat.
Prosecutors further allege that Watson passed an object to Sansom, which was used to make cutting motions against Sharif's throat.
Both men denied the attempted murder charge.
