Two dead, several injured in house fire on Spanish island of Mallorca
A fire broke out early Thursday in a residential building in the Magaluf area of Mallorca, killing two people and injuring several others.

Spanish authorities reported that a fire started at around 5 a.m. on the third floor of a residential building in the Magaluf area of Mallorca. The flames spread throughout the building, especially to the upper floors. Residents attempted to extinguish the fire but were unsuccessful. The blaze was brought under control approximately two hours later.
Two people died in the fire: a 58-year-old Argentine man and a woman whose identity has not yet been confirmed. They were in separate apartments. Four people remain hospitalized, according to a statement from local authorities. About 20 residents were affected by the fire.
Temporary housing for those affected will be provided by nearby hotels, officials said. The floor where the fire started, as well as the floors directly above and below, have been cordoned off. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Magaluf is a popular beach and nightlife destination, especially among young British and German tourists. It is located on the coast of Calvià, 22 kilometers west of Palma de Mallorca, the capital of the Mediterranean archipelago. Local authorities have declared two days of mourning following the tragedy.
