Disney+ to stream the Super Bowl and some Monday Night Football games
The Super Bowl will air on ABC and ESPN in February and also stream on Disney+ in 55 markets. The platform will also carry two Monday Night Football games this season.
ABC, which is owned by Disney, will broadcast the Super Bowl for the first time in more than 20 years on February 14. ABC and ESPN will show the game live, and it has now been confirmed that it will also stream on Disney+.
The livestream will be available in 55 global markets and offered in both English and Spanish. This should make the game accessible to a much wider audience.
Monday Night Football too
Besides the Super Bowl, Disney+ will stream two Monday Night Football games during the season. The first takes place on October 26, when the Philadelphia Eagles host the Dallas Cowboys. The second game has not yet been announced.
Streaming's growing role
Streaming platforms carrying the Super Bowl is not new. Peacock streamed the game last year, and Tubi did so the year before.
It makes sense for traditional broadcasters to share the event with a streaming service, since many viewers today do not have access to conventional network channels.
Disney said in August that it had already sold all advertising slots for the game. This year's event is Super Bowl LXI.
