Deezer to add a toggle that lets listeners filter out AI-generated music entirely

Music streaming service Deezer will add a switch to its app by the end of the year that lets users hide AI-generated tracks. The company cites user demand, as the share of AI-made songs on the platform keeps climbing.

Deezer, the France-based music streaming platform, announced that it will introduce a simple on/off toggle in its app by the end of 2026, allowing users to filter out artificial intelligence (AI) generated music completely. The company disclosed the feature on 13 October.

Deezer CEO Alexis Lanternier said the company has seen clear demand from users for the ability to remove such content. According to him, everyone will be able to take it out of their listening experience entirely and focus only on human-made music if they wish.

Rapid growth of AI tracks

Deezer says that last year about 18 percent of tracks uploaded to its platform were AI-generated. That share has since risen to more than 50 percent. The company reports that around 90,000 fully generated tracks are uploaded each day, and the total has passed 42 million.

Deezer also points to fraud: up to 85 percent of all streams of AI-generated songs were fraudulent, according to the platform. A study carried out by Deezer suggested that almost half of music streaming users would like AI-generated music removed from their feeds altogether. The broadcaster NPR recently reported on a separate study indicating that listeners' attitudes toward AI music are worsening.

Detection tool

Deezer was among the first in the industry to develop an AI music detection tool, and it has offered to lend it to rival streaming services. The system is not foolproof, but the company says the risk of false positives is very low.

Other platforms have taken a milder approach. YouTube Music recently began attaching a label to AI-generated tracks, while Spotify uses a similar label on AI artist pages.
