Daugavpils and Rēzekne expand network of pedestrian and cycling paths

A pedestrian and cycling path more than five kilometers long now connects Daugavpils with the village of Locika in Augšdaugava municipality. After construction was completed, defects were identified in some sections, requiring parts of the surface to be rebuilt.

Near Rēzekne, work is underway on a similar project — a path over four kilometers long that will connect the city with Sondori.

Future plans

Beyond the paths already built or under construction, further pedestrian and cycling routes are planned for the region. A connection between Daugavpils and Krauja is planned, as is one between Rēzekne and Janopole.

Such paths allow residents to travel more safely between cities and nearby villages on foot or by bicycle, without having to share the road with car traffic.
