Russia has started sabotage operations against Danish companies that supply goods to Ukraine, Reuters reported, citing Danish intelligence.

Speaking at an internal security conference in Copenhagen, Josefine Christensen, a senior analyst at Denmark's Security and Intelligence Service (PET), said the shift points to a significant escalation of the hybrid war led by Moscow.

From planning to action

According to Christensen, the service saw a great deal of planning but very little actual activity in the spring. By early summer that had changed, and Russia began carrying out considerably more. "In the spring we saw a lot of planning but very little real action; at the beginning of the summer we saw them start to carry out much more," the analyst said.

Why the approach changed

Christensen explained that Russia has concluded its earlier large-scale attacks did not have a deterrent effect on Western NATO members when it comes to supporting Ukraine. Broader attempts at destabilisation therefore failed to curb military assistance to Kyiv.

She noted that Moscow retains political control over such operations, but operational boldness is growing.

Targeting weapons production

Russia is currently seeking goals that directly affect the front line, which means trying to influence weapons production, Christensen added.

She pointed to a list from Russia's Defence Ministry naming European manufacturers of drones and drone components. According to Moscow, these companies were identified in April as potential military targets.
