Former England captain Dallaglio to auction 2003 World Cup winner's medal after bankruptcy

Former England rugby captain Lawrence Dallaglio, 54, is auctioning off a range of items from his career, including medals, trophies and caps, after being declared bankrupt.

Among the lots is his 2003 Rugby World Cup winner's medal, which is expected to fetch between £50,000 and £80,000. The full collection carries an estimated total value of around £180,000.

Dallaglio was a key figure in the England team that won the World Cup in a dramatic final against Australia 23 years ago.

Other items in the sale

Alongside the World Cup medal, the auction includes a British and Irish Lions cap, his medal from the 1993 World Cup Sevens victory, and a winner's medal from the 2003 Six Nations Championship.

Speaking on The High Performance podcast earlier this month, Dallaglio addressed his bankruptcy, explaining it followed his divorce and that he had made financial mistakes he could have handled better.

He also revealed he sought therapy after the divorce and bankruptcy left him struggling with feelings of self-pity.

The auction will be held on 13 October at Budd's auction house in Northamptonshire.
