Partial solar eclipse observed across North and West Africa
Millions of people across parts of Africa looked up to the sky to witness a rare partial solar eclipse. The phenomenon was also visible elsewhere, including in Spain.
On August 12, people across several North and West African countries watched a partial solar eclipse, a relatively rare celestial event that drew widespread public attention.
The eclipse was also visible beyond the African continent — images show it was observed in Berlanga de Duero, a town in central Spain.
The event was covered by France 24's daily program "Eye on Africa," which reviews key developments across the continent each evening. The same broadcast also touched on other current stories from the region.

The program also reported on the upcoming election in Zambia, where incumbent President Hakainde Hichilema is seeking a second term. His main rival described the campaign as difficult, citing what he called deliberate obstruction by the government.
The broadcast additionally looked at the situation in Nigeria, where drivers are increasingly turning to electric vehicles as the country continues to face a fuel crisis that has lasted more than a decade. Several challenges, however, still hinder wider adoption of electric cars.
