Daile Theatre's one-woman show «Visas viņas»: one actress, three women's life stories

In the Daile Theatre production «Visas viņas» («All of Them»), actress Ilze Ķuzule-Skrastiņa plays three women's life stories entirely on her own. The director is Inese Mičule. The actress discusses the show on «Teātris.zip», a theatre programme on LSM, the Latvian public broadcaster.
Three stories, three formats
One actress performs, but there are three stories. Each is set in a different era and has its own theatrical format, completely unlike the others. On stage, Ķuzule-Skrastiņa has to move from a realistic, psychologically grounded character to the absurd, and then to what is almost a poetic score of a life.
Where the idea came from
The actress says she wanted a one-person show in which she could put her name to every word she says. In her recollection: «I wanted my one-person show to be one where I could literally sign under every word I say. Because people come, and there is only me there. So they truly come to watch me.»
The conversation
In «Teātris.zip», Ķuzule-Skrastiņa talks about how a single actress can hold an entire world on stage. She also describes how the manner of expression changes during the performance, and how the show travels from a realistic story to the absurd and to a poetic form.
The production and the conversation can be watched on the LSM website.
