Cricut unveils two compact machines for printing and cutting stickers
Cricut has introduced two new compact crafting machines that let users turn photos and images into finished stickers. Both devices stand out for their small size, aimed at those with limited storage space.
Cricut has announced its first crafting machines equipped with printing capabilities, designed primarily to turn photos and other images into pre-cut stickers. The new devices — the Cricut StickerPix Print plus Cut and the Cricut StickerPix Print — are also among the smallest machines in the company's current lineup, making them well suited for users with limited space at home.
The larger model
The Cricut StickerPix Print plus Cut starts at $299 and is also offered in pricier bundles that include additional consumables. It works with 4x7-inch sticker sheets and 4x6-inch photo paper, using a dye-sublimation printing process that relies on heat rather than spraying ink, resulting in better color reproduction. Unlike Cricut's larger crafting machines, this device includes a built-in lamination step that makes prints resistant to water, scratches, and fading over time.
The smaller model
The smaller Cricut StickerPix Print starts at $169 and is also available in larger bundles. It carries over most of the functionality of the bigger model but lacks cutting capability. Instead, it prints directly onto pre-cut sticker sheets in shapes such as circles, rectangles, and squares, and can also print 4x6 photos.
The key difference between the StickerPix Print plus Cut and Cricut's larger machines is that the new device can only cut through the top layer of a print, producing so-called kiss-cut stickers that remain attached to a larger backing sheet. Cricut's other machines, by contrast, can produce die-cut stickers that are sliced entirely through the backing paper.
