Coventry break club transfer record to sign Ghana's Yirenkyi
Newly promoted Coventry City have made their record signing, bringing in Ghana international midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi from Danish club Nordsjaelland.
Coventry City, back in the Premier League after a 25-year absence, have broken their transfer record to sign 20-year-old Ghana midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi.
The player joins from Danish side Nordsjaelland on a long-term contract, with the Sky Blues reportedly paying a fee of around 27m euros (£23.1m), plus a further 3m euros (£2.5m) in potential add-ons.
Yirenkyi earned his first senior Ghana cap in May 2025 and featured at this year's World Cup, where he scored a stoppage-time winner as the Black Stars beat Panama in the group stage.
He becomes Coventry's fifth signing of the summer window since Frank Lampard steered the club back to the top flight. The midfielder said he was encouraged by conversations with the head coach about the club's style and plans, adding that he is eager to keep learning given his young age, both from the coaching staff and his new teammates.
A graduate of the Right to Dream academy, Yirenkyi moved to Nordsjaelland in 2024 and was named the Danish Superliga's young player of the year last season. While he operates mainly in midfield, he has also shown his versatility by playing at right-back for both club and country.
