US media, citing GM, report that the seventh-generation Chevrolet Camaro will arrive roughly a year later than previously expected and may undergo a major transformation. Reports suggest a shift from a two-door coupe to a four-door, rear-wheel-drive sports sedan.
American media outlets, citing information from General Motors, report that one of the most iconic US muscle cars, the Chevrolet Camaro, will return to the market later than earlier reports had suggested. The seventh-generation Camaro is now expected roughly a year later than previously predicted, arriving as a 2029 model.
Possible shift to a sedan body style
The most notable change concerns the car's very shape: the classic two-door sports coupe could reportedly be replaced by a four-door sports sedan with rear-wheel drive. Chevrolet has not officially confirmed this information, but reports point to an updated GM Alpha platform and a powerful naturally aspirated V8 engine. There is also a chance the car will retain a manual transmission option, which would be welcome news for sports car enthusiasts.
A rival to German premium sedans
If these plans come to fruition, the new Camaro could become an American alternative to models such as the BMW M3, combining four doors, rear-wheel drive and a traditional V8 character. It is worth recalling that production of the sixth-generation Chevrolet Camaro ended in 2024, leaving the model's future uncertain since then.
