Cēsis Region Resident Develops App for Rapid Drone Threat Alerts
Kristaps Gertmanis from the Cēsis region is developing the AirAlert app in his spare time. It aims to combine reports from people with sensor data to spot airspace threats faster.

Could ordinary people's smartphones become part of a system that helps detect airspace threats more quickly? The question is explored in the LSM.lv programme "Let's Discuss in the Evening" in connection with an app called AirAlert.
The app has been in development for several months, built in his free time by Kristaps Gertmanis, a resident of the Cēsis region. The core idea is to merge information provided by people with data from various sensors. This approach would make it possible to understand more quickly what is happening in the sky and to notice a potential threat in good time.
According to the programme, the project is so far the author's personal initiative, which he works on outside his working hours. The aim of the app is to build a shared picture from several sources of information rather than relying on just one.
The programme focuses on whether everyday devices, which almost everyone already carries, could serve as an additional tool for airspace monitoring and early warning.
