Luggage Brand Quince Offers Budget Alternative to Popular Away Suitcases

Travel gear brand Quince has released a luggage set that Wired reviewers say rivals popular brand Away in quality while costing significantly less. Testing found both brands equally durable, but Quince's bundle offers better value.

A Wired review compares travel brand Quince's new luggage set to the pricier, well-known competitor Away. The reviewed bundle — an expandable small carry-on and a large check-in suitcase — costs $270.

Both brands offer very similar products: polycarbonate hard-shell suitcases with 360-degree spinner wheels, a Travel Sentry combination lock, a removable laundry bag, and a lifetime warranty. According to the reviewer, both brands' suitcases proved equally sturdy in testing, and identical clothing fit in both sets, though Quince's large check-in bag offered more room once expanded.

The designs are also similar — without Away's emblem, the suitcases would be hard to tell apart. Quince's branding is even more minimal, though this makes its bags harder to spot on a baggage carousel.

The key difference is price: Quince offers comparable functionality for considerably less than Away, and it also undercuts other competitors such as July, Monos, Travelpro, and Briggs & Riley. Buying the bundle cuts an additional $90 off the combined price compared to buying items separately. Quince also offers a 365-day return window for unused items, longer than competitors provide.

The reviewer has previously tested other Quince travel gear, including neoprene bags that survived a week-long wellness retreat in Arizona. The review concludes that for anyone buying new luggage, Quince offers better value for money than pricier competitors.
