Czech Hockey League: Gavars scores shorthanded goal in heavy defeat, Jaks nets goal and assist
In the Czech Extraliga, Latvian legionnaires Fēlikss Gavars and Jānis Jaks both put up strong individual performances, but their teams still lost.
Two Latvian ice hockey legionnaires had standout individual moments in the latest round of the Czech Extraliga, though neither could prevent their clubs from losing.
Forward Fēlikss Gavars, playing for Mladá Boleslav, scored a shorthanded goal, but it offered little consolation as his team suffered a heavy 2:6 defeat to Vítkovice. Gavars has had a strong start to the season, having already collected five points (two goals, three assists) in his first five games of the Czech championship.
Meanwhile, defenseman Jānis Jaks, who plays for Litvínov, recorded a goal and an assist in the same round. However, his team also came up short, falling 4:5 to České Budějovice. Fellow Latvian player Renārs Krastenbergs is on the České Budějovice roster.
