Bulgarian Prime Minister Rumen Radev announced on Saturday, following an emergency meeting of the government's security council in Sofia, that a drone of unknown origin had entered the country's airspace and exploded on Bulgarian territory roughly 100 meters from the border with Romania.

The blast occurred close to the Kardam border crossing point, in the northeastern part of the country near the Black Sea. Radev noted that the explosion site lies only about 1,000 meters from a compressor station on the Trans-Balkan gas pipeline, which carries gas from Turkey to Ukraine.

According to the prime minister, there were no injuries and no material damage from the incident. Bulgaria's border police, together with representatives of the Ministry of Defense, are now working to determine where the drone came from and why it ended up so close to strategically important gas infrastructure.

The drone's origin has not yet been officially confirmed, and the investigation is continuing.
