Fast-Moving Wildfire in British Columbia Kills One, Forces Mass Evacuation
A rapidly spreading wildfire in British Columbia, Canada, has killed at least one person and forced roughly 20,000 residents to evacuate. The blaze remains out of control.
A large wildfire burning in Canada's British Columbia province, known as the Bald Range fire, has scorched more than 33,000 acres and remained uncontained as of Sunday, officials said.
At least one person has died as a result of the fire, according to officials, though further details about the victim have not been released.
Tens of Thousands Told to Flee
Given the fire's rapid spread and uncontrolled state, authorities ordered approximately 20,000 people living in or near the affected area to evacuate immediately.
Crews are continuing efforts to contain the blaze, but as of Sunday it was still classified as out of control. Information on the cause of the fire, the extent of any property damage, or a timeline for containment has not yet been made available.
