Artists in Bogotá stage musical protest against culture budget cuts

Hundreds of artists and performing arts students gathered outside the Ministry of Cultures building in Bogotá, Colombia, to protest against government plans to reduce cultural funding. Demonstrators used music, dance, puppets and large banners to express their opposition.
The proposed cuts
The government has proposed cutting the Ministry of Cultures' 2027 budget by nearly 30 percent. In addition, the National Incentives Program, which normally awards grants and recognitions to artists, has had its 2026 awards suspended entirely.
What protesters want
Demonstrators are calling on authorities to release the suspended funding and to provide stronger overall support for the cultural sector. The protest brought together both established artists and performing arts students, who voiced concern over what the cuts could mean for the future of Colombia's arts community.
