Bite to carry out network upgrades in Riga overnight into Monday, brief service disruptions possible
Telecom operator Bite Latvija will perform software upgrades at 139 base stations across Riga overnight from September 27 to 28, which may cause brief service interruptions for some customers.
Telecommunications and ICT services provider Bite Latvija has announced it will carry out network software upgrade work at 139 base stations across various Riga neighborhoods overnight from September 27 to 28. The work is part of the company's ongoing network development programme, and similar upgrades have already been successfully carried out in several regions of Latvia without significant impact on customers' daily communications.
Timing and process
The work will take place between 00:30 and 03:00, when network usage is at its lowest. During this window, each of the 139 base stations will undergo two brief restarts, each lasting approximately three minutes. The company warns that some customers may experience short-term disruptions to voice calls, mobile internet, and other services across 2G, 4G, and 5G networks during this period.

Aleksandrs Beļajevs, head of Bite Latvija's Radio Network Department, explains that regular network software updates are necessary to keep pace with rising data consumption and customer demand for quality communications, as well as to strengthen network resilience and prepare the infrastructure for future technology development.
What to do in case of problems
If communication issues persist after the work is completed, the company recommends restarting the device first, repeating if necessary. If the problem cannot be resolved, customers in Latvia are advised to contact the customer service center at 1601. Bite Latvija apologizes for any possible temporary inconvenience and thanks customers for their understanding.
