Man dressed as Batman chases down bag thief in UK city
In Norwich, a 25-year-old man wearing a Batman costume at a friend's birthday party chased down a street thief and helped recover a stolen handbag. He later shared the story on TikTok.
A 25-year-old man named Sonny Mason became an unlikely local hero in the English city of Norwich after chasing down a thief while dressed as Batman and helping recover a stolen handbag.
The incident happened on a Saturday evening outside a bar, where Sonny was queuing with friends to celebrate a friend's birthday. A stranger approached two women nearby, initially acting friendly before falsely accusing them of stealing cigarettes. He then grabbed one woman's handbag and ran off.
The chase and recovery
Seeing what happened, Sonny immediately pursued the thief, drawing the attention of a nearby police patrol that joined the chase. To retrieve the bag, which the thief had abandoned, Sonny had to climb over a wall surrounding a cathedral. His makeshift grappling hook, fashioned from a recycled toilet paper roll, failed to work this time, so he asked bystanders for help getting over.
The scene reportedly resembled a superhero gathering, as friends dressed as Mister Fantastic, Poison Ivy and Cyclops rushed to assist Batman. The handbag, along with all its contents, was ultimately returned safely to its owner.
Sonny, who normally works at a local café, later shared his nighttime adventure on TikTok. He said that being able to help the woman get home safely and seeing her relief gave him a great feeling, adding that everyone needs a bit of Batman in their heart — one simply has to be brave, visible and kind.
