Thousands of people gathered in Belgrade, the capital of Serbia, on Wednesday to welcome students who had travelled from across the country for a final rally before snap parliamentary elections this weekend. The student movement is seeking to make its presence felt in the closing days before voters head to the polls.

A festive welcome

Cheers, music and waving flags greeted the arriving students. Marchers carried Serbian flags and burning torches as they made their way into the city, while crowds filled the streets to cheer and applaud them. Students and supporters sang and danced along the procession, and the atmosphere was festive.

Signs and symbols

Some demonstrators held signs declaring "Students win!", while others displayed symbols of the student movement. Images from the scene showed young people dancing together and carrying banners. One banner featured a crossed-out portrait of a man resembling Aleksandar Vučić, whom Euronews describes as the former president.

The final mobilisation

The gathering marked the arrival of students from different parts of Serbia, who came to take part in the last mobilisation before the parliamentary vote. Thousands of supporters turned out to welcome them, waving national flags and joining in the celebrations. The rally in Belgrade was scheduled ahead of the weekend elections.
