Beitar Riga nets seven past Talsi, Nikers claims first win of the season

Two matches opened the second round of Latvia's futsal top league, with both favourites coming out on top — though one of them needed a full second half to break its opponent down.

Beitar turns it on after the break

In the match between TFK Beitar Riga and FC Talsi, the visitors surprisingly opened the scoring, but held their lead for only a minute. The Riga side equalised quickly and took the lead themselves by the eighth minute, closing the first half with a narrow 2:1 edge.

After the break, Beitar took full control of the game and added five more goals, sealing a convincing 7:2 victory. Dmitrijs Kuzmins stood out among the scorers with a hat-trick.

Nikers breaks through in the final minutes

In the season's other match, FC Nikers faced Squad/Samgus Aizkraukle in a much tighter contest. Neither side scored through the entire first half and most of the second, with the score still 0:0 in the 37th minute.

Rihards Ponomarjovs then put his team ahead, and in the closing seconds Edvards Eduards Ošis added a second goal to make it 2:0. The result gave FC Nikers its first win of the season.

Following these results, TFK Beitar Riga remains at the top of the standings with two wins from two matches.
