According to the program "Degpunktā," the crash began when a silver-colored Ford had stopped on the road to make a left turn. A truck approaching from behind reportedly failed to notice the stationary vehicle in time, resulting in a powerful rear-end collision.
The force of the impact was strong enough to push the Ford into the opposing traffic lane, where it collided with an oncoming rental SUV, a Toyota belonging to the CityBee car-sharing fleet.
The 24-year-old driver of the Ford, who is pregnant, was injured in the crash. She was taken to a medical facility following the accident. Medical staff have declined to provide further details about her condition, citing personal data protection requirements.
State Police continue to investigate the circumstances of the accident in order to determine the precise cause and responsible party.
