Three cars catch fire in Bauska municipality within one day
Firefighters in Bauska municipality responded to two separate incidents within 24 hours in which three passenger cars caught fire, in the Vecumnieki and Iecava parishes. No injuries were mentioned.
Over the past 24 hours, firefighters and rescuers from the State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD) in the Bauska municipality responded twice to calls involving burning passenger cars, according to VUGD spokesperson Aneka Skaidiņa.
The first call came in yesterday morning at around 10:22, sending crews to Vecumnieki parish, where two passenger cars were on fire at a scrap metal collection point. The blaze covered an area of 16 square meters, and firefighters spent roughly an hour bringing it under control.
The second incident occurred in the evening, shortly after 5:00 pm, when crews were dispatched to Iecava parish. There, fire had broken out in a car's engine compartment, covering a much smaller area of just 0.1 square meters.
Overall call volume
Between 6:30 am on September 29 and 6:30 am on September 30, the VUGD's Zemgale regional department received nine calls in total. Two were related to firefighting, five involved rescue operations, and two turned out to be false alarms.
