Clock at Bauska utility company stuck at 12:30 for years, fix promised by mid-November
Residents of Bauska have long noticed that a clock outside the Bauska municipal utility company (BNKS) building has been showing 12:30 for years. The company has promised to fix it before Latvia's national holiday.
For several years, residents of Bauska have noticed that a public clock outside the building of the Bauska Municipal Utility Company (BNKS) permanently shows 12:30, regardless of the actual time. Local residents raised the question of the clock's fate with the municipality.
BNKS board member Uģis Saukums confirmed that the company itself was aware of the issue. He said a plan to address it has already been prepared and approved: the existing display stand will be kept, but new material will be applied over it.
Interactive screen idea dropped
Saukums said the company had considered installing an interactive screen, similar to one already in use in the nearby town of Iecava. However, after evaluating the costs, the company decided against this option.
Linda Abu Meri (JV), deputy chair of the Bauska Municipal Council, asked what content such a screen would actually display, but company representatives did not answer the question directly, only confirming that the idea would not be pursued.
Asked when the fix would take place, Saukums promised the work would be completed by Latvia's national holiday, naming November 18 as the deadline. Abu Meri expressed hope that the renewed clock would look modern and fit well into the surrounding environment.
